Christmas (meal) in Rome

We are going to Rome for Christmas. A couple of questions:

-- Christmas Lunch/Dinner--recommendations? We are staying in the Ludovisi district, but are open to nearby areas
(a) How soon do we make reservations
(i) Do we call or can we make them online
(b) This meal will most likely be our big splurge--foodwise--that week; is the meal the full-blown Italian multi-course meal?
(i) Is this meal fix-priced or are we paying ala carte?
(c) Can we share plates?

*We are a family of 4 (parents + 2 kids (14, 10)

Hi,

Here is a website https://www.romewise.com/
from a woman, Elyssa, who is married to a Roman and has lived in Rome for about twenty years.

She has a lot of info to help anyone with their trip to Rome.

She also has helpful YouTube videos.

This particular section of her website has a lot of food suggestions.

https://www.romewise.com/places-to-eat-in-rome.html

Naturally, personal taste varies but very good advice.

Scroll through to her meal recommendations.

Of course, always best to check the actual website of any restaurant for policies, operating times/days open - (reservation requirements), menu, and possibly pricing.

A lot of travelers seem to like the Trastevere - Popular; colorful; an Estrucan flare. Monti - a bohemian flare. The Jewish ghetto area - between the Tiber and Piazza Venezia.

Hope this helps some.

(a) Asap
(b) Some restaurants have a set menu for Xmas day with a fixed price. In other places you can order à la carte and have only the dishes you want, There are no mandatory courses, It's a Restaurant, not your Granny's house :)
(i) Some restaurants take reservations only by phone while others have a web-site with a page where customers can reserve a table
(c) You can share some plates, but use your common sense. If you occupy a table for 4 and they can't bring the bill before you ask for it... do not spend for 2! Sharing the starters is quite normal, sharing any given dish is unpolite.
