Christmas meal in Roma

We are a family of 7 traveling this Christmas to Roma. The children are teens now. We were wondering if any of you seasoned RS travelers have any information about reasonable restaurants that are open Christmas day.We will be staying near the Vatican. Thanks and Buon Natale!

Good question for RoninRome.com Second, no Christmas experience in Rome but our two prior Christmas experience (Germany, Spain) is that the big tourist oriented hotels with restaurants will be open and little else. Depending on where you are staying I would try to have my own Christmas dinner even if only cold meat, cheese, bread, fruit, and wine. It will still be one of your best Christmas dinners.

A lot of the high end restaurants are open but why spend a lot of money for a fancy meal on a busy a day. Two reasonable restaurants that are open 365 days a year: La Focaccia near Piazza Navona on Via della Pace and Maccheroni near the Pantheon at Piazza delle Coppelle. Google each for phone number, I would make reservation.

Nancy, the restaurants in the Jewish Ghetto will probably be open, and there are some great ones! Not all are kosher, but that information is listed on the menu or on the restaurant doors.

Nancy, have you asked the owner / operator of the place in which you will stay? They might have a nice local place.

We are in Italy now, heading to Roma for Christmas as well. Last year Katie Parla www.parlafood.com did a Christmas Dining list and plans to post one for this year as well. Follow her blog and look back for last year's list as a start. I, too, am thinking about restaurants in the Ghetto, although I'd like to experience the Feast of the 7 Fishes if possible. Buon Natale! See you in Roma! :-)

Hello fellow travelers! Thanks for your help with my Christmas meal planning. Can you tell I don't want to cook on the holiday? We are going to the Papal Blessing at noon and Christmas lunch after. We have been following Rick's path since 1986. I am delighted in his success. BUON NATALE! Can't wait to hit the road again. Blessings, Nancy
P.S. Love Ron in Rome in Copenhagen!
