Any opinions about that time of year? Are 6-7 days (in an apartment) too long? I was in Venice 25 years ago for 2-3 days in early Fall, didn't feel it was long enough.

Ed....I spend 3 weeks in the fall every year in Venice. I always leave feeling as if I've just scratched the surface of this amazing city!!
Check out renting the studio at Corte Tiepolo....with a view onto the Grand Canal. It is amazing.
