My family and I would like to go to Rome and down to the Amalfi coast during the week of December 22 to the 30. How is the weather during this time and what tips can you give me of things to do. Thanks
Megan, I answered part of your question here earlier today. As to the Amalfi Coast, we also stayed in Sorrento a week prior to Christmas in Rome last year. Rick Steves' guidebook can tell you all you need to know about things to do. We were more than busy for an entire week there. Do be aware that Christmas Week is very busy in Sorrento as the Italians go there for a holiday as well, especially between Christmas and New Years'. So make your reservation early and expect high season prices. On the other hand, while Rome is also busy with travelers at Christmas, if you make it a long stay you will likely get a break on an apartment price for an extended period. As to weather, we encountered anything from 40 to 60, one great thunderstorm in Sorrento, and only one significantly rainy afternoon in Rome. Some overcast days, some very clear and brisk. Bring gloves, wear light layers, don't worry about boots, but Gortex walking shoes and SmartWool socks are nice.
Thank You for yout reply, it is very helpful
