Best area to spend Christmas in Rome, family of 14, from 5 years old to 75.
I spent xmas in Rome on a Rick Steves' tour. The great thing was non Italian tourists were at a minimum, but Italian tourists coming home to celebrate with their family were at a maximum. The weather was a little rainy and cool, but a lined rain coat kept me comfy. I went to xmas eve service at Santa Maria Maggiore and it was such a beautiful service. I'm really glad I experienced Rome at the holiday season.
We spent Christmas in London and New Years in Rome. We rented an apartment in Rome near Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Nice area, safe. Good restaurants. Make dinner reservations in October for your stay in December. The city fills up with Italian tourists! Get going now on finding a rental for such a large group,
We also stayed near Piazza Navona for this past New Year’s and it was great! There was a winter carnival in the Piazza with rides for the children and lots of vendors. We didn’t have any trouble finding places to eat without reservations but for a large party planning ahead makes sense. Good luck with the trip!
