Hello -
I’ve searched the forum and all the posts are quite dated or focus on Christmas Eve rather than 12/25. I’m scheduled to arrive in Rome midafternoon Christmas day and am looking for suggestions for a restaurant or trattoria where I can make a reservation in advance for one. Personal experiences would be most appreciated.
I'd take a look at the big names in the Ghetto; they should be open on the holiday.
We had a good meal at PIPERNO.
NONNA BETTA is also popular, with good reviews, but I have not eaten there.
It's been a few years, but we've enjoyed Easter dinner here https://www.ilgiardinoromano.com/ a few times. Also in the Ghetto, reservations online.
You are wise to reserve in advance. If the Ghetto is inconvenient, where are you staying?
I’m staying in Ostiense, where I’ve stayed a number of times, and am familiar enough to use public transit or walk or some combination of both. I appreciate the Ghetto recommendations - Piperno isn’t open on 12/25, unfortunately, and Nonna B hasn’t yet opened the date for reservations. I’ll check Il Giardinoromano out. Grazie mille!
You could have very limited options. We have no experience in Rome over Christmas day but when we were in Spain over Christmas a couple of years ago almost nothing was open. A few restaurants associated with large hotels were open and packed with tourists. Many years earlier in Germany it was the same experience. This practice may be more common in Europe.
