I will be spending a month in Trento, abut an hour north of Verona, from November 20-December 20, as a "visiting scholar" (lucky me!). My husband will join me on December 18 and we will return to the US on December 28, and plan to spend the nights of the 26th and 27th in Milan. Any suggestions as to where to spend Dec. 19-26? We were in Venice last year when it was beastly hot and I wouldn't mind returning there but my husband thinks that Christmas in Austria would also be nice. We could rent a car or use trains. Thanks for any ideas.
RS has a tv Christmas in Europe special in which he visits numerous Christmas festivals in Austria, Italy and many other countries. The tv show is on YouTube, for free, so you can scroll through at your liesure to get some tips.
I would go to Austria (and if you can Germany). The Christmas markets are festive and it's unbelievably beautiful. Since you will already be in Italy for a month, why not mix it up a little bit?
Thanks! We are leaning very strongly to going to Austria, so I appreciate the encouragement.
