My husband and I are trying to decide which tours to take. We'll be in Florence for a week this August. We were thinking of booking Art Viva's Original Florence Walk and possibly their David tour. However, the David tour is 35 euro for a 1 hour tour, so I wanted to make sure this is worthwhile. Also wondering if anyone has recommendations for tours/companies. We're open to all suggestions.
Having just left Florence, I'd suggest skipping a tour, but I'd recommend getting a Florence card, not to save money, but to avoid the lines, we went at 5:00pm and there was still a line for "walk up" tickets. Regards
It depends on your focus when you travel. I know Florence well, but find I really appreciate the right type of tour to enhance my understanding of certain sites. I took Art Viva's Uffizi/Vasari Corridor tour last fall. I wanted to visit the Vasari Corridor (which can only be done with a tour group) and their timing worked for me. I was disappointed with the quality. The guide was nice and entertaining, but the presentation targeted the lowest common denominator. For example, while viewing one of Lippi's masterpieces, the talk focused on gossip about his sex life (which was not completely accurate). And there were about 20 people in our group, which is a real time waster in a place as crowded as the Uffizi. I've always previously used Context Travel (Context Florence, Context Venice, etc) and I will go back to them. Really small groups (no more than 6). Guides that are entertaining but also offer quality information/insight. Much more time touring (vs waiting, gathering, etc).
No need for a tour of the Uffuzi. I would recommend buy a ticket ahead of time though to avoid the lines. It helps Tp know what time of day you want to be there.
