I will be traveling from Chiusi to Praiano by train and have been told that Naples then the buses to Sorrento is the best way, but the train websites seem to have a quicker timeline going to Salerno then to Praiano instead. It's about an hour and two buses quicker. Any suggestions?
Praiano is mid-way between Positano and Amalfi. If you come in from Naples, you first have to take the private Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento. This is about 1:10hrs. Then, you take the SITA bus which takes 1:15hrs to get to Praiano.
If you take the Trenitalia train to Salerno from Naples, it's 30-min to an hour. Unfortunately, the bus systems that I see go from Salerno to Amalfi; they don't continue on to Praiano. Same coming the other way from Sorrento. The buses go to Amalfi but no further. They do stop at Praiano before Amalfi from this direction. I don't see bus runs that go from Sorrento to Salerno or the reverse. There might be one, but I don't see it.
The train from Chiusi to Naples takes almost 4 hours, then at least 2 more hours on two buses to Praiano.
The train from Chiusi to Salerno take 4 hours 40 min then 1 hour on a bus to Praiano. I've also been told I can take a ferry from Salerno to Amalfi then a bus to Praiano. I'm looking for the quickest route. How about a ferry from Naples? Would that make sense???
There are ferries from both Naples and Salerno to both Positano and Amalfi. First, you have to get to the ferry terminal from either Naples or Salerno. I don't know how to do that.
Next, here's some scoop on the jet hydrofoil to either Positano or Amalfi from Naples. Trip time is 50 minutes. Assuming that you can easily get to the ferry terminal, this could save you an hour or so.
"From Naples, Navigazione Libera Del Golfo has roughly one hydrofoil departure per hour (EUR12, travel time 40 minutes). From Easter to October, the company also offers one jetfoil from Positano and Amalfi (approximately EUR12.5, travel time 50 minutes), and one ferry from Positano and Amalfi (EUR10, travel time 1 hour, 20 minutes)."
Thank you very much for the info.
The SITA bus company website shows frequent buses from Salerno to Amalfi (75 min), with 10 min to change to another bus from Amalfi to Praiano (25 min). Almost all the Amalfi to Sorrento buses show a stop in Praiano. If you want to try navigating the website, it's www.sitabus.it. Choose Campagna in the dropdown box and then Orari Linea Campagna. From there it's pretty easy to follow.
Thank you Frank. That's one website I haven't tried yet..... :)
Frank has a great solution. I knew the bus from Salerno didn't go farther than Amalfi so this works well.
HERE'S THE LINK to the SITA bus schedule to both Salerno and Sorrento.
