Chiusi to Barga by Rail or Rental ?

Ciao All!
My wife and I taking a trip to Italy soon. We went once 21 years ago but it was via cruise ship so each place visited was too short. Our itinerary in short: Rome to Chiusi by rail. There we will pick up a car and enjoy the area for 5 days visitIng towns such as Montefollonico Montepulciano Montalcino etc. After 5 days we will head to Barga to stay at the Renaissance Il Cocchio for two nights then off to Venice by rail for two more nights then back to Rome by rail for our last two nights in Italy before heading back over the pond. Here is my question: we can return the car back in Chiusi and rail to Barga with a train change in both Florence and Lucca. In Barga I would have to get shuttle or taxi up to the hotel... About a 6 hour journey but could be enjoyable I’m guessing. Not sure. OR.... we can keep car a couple extra days and
Drive directly to the Renaissance Hotel. I believe it’s just under 3 hours. I’ve never driven in Italy but am excited to drive around Tuscany from town to town which wil be 45 minute trips at the most. This trip to Barga would be a long drive but half the time it would take us via rail. We are not in any great hurry but want to do what would be most enjoyable. Your experience and advice would be most appreciated. I hope I haven’t rambled on too long. Thanks in advance for any input.

Keep the car, for sure.
Il Ciocco is not in town, you’ll be stuck there without a car. With a car you can take Day trips in the area, like the Garfagnana, Apuan mountains, and Lucca too.
The drive from the Siena area to Barga is not long, and maybe you can stop at Volterra along the way.
I would actually also drive to Venice and return the car at Piazzale Roma in Venice. I wouldn’t bother with the trains. 3.5 hours on the freeway and you are there.
If you prefer a train, then return the car in Lucca, then take the train from there (1 train change in Florence).
