Chioggia to Venice

Will be arriving on cruise ship (May 17th.) into Chioggia and the cruise ship will be docked there for two (2) days. The first day we would like to go into Venice and the second day ( morning) we will need to leave the ship and find transportation to the Venice airport for a 2:55 PM flight home.
My question is what are my transportation options and would it be better to leave the ship on the first day and spend the night in Venice proper and leave from there for the airport?
This is because on the second day we would be required to leave ship early and would then have a five (5) hour wait at the airport prior to boarding, which is no fun.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

For sure take the bus and stay in Venice --- it's a little more than an hour. And you'll see more of Venice at its least crowded times, evening and morning. The Venice airport is small and there is very little to do there.

The other route (ferry, bus, and vaporetto) between Chioggia and Venice might seem tempting, and my husband and I have done it recently just for fun, but it is nowhere near as interesting as being in Venice.

Lots of places to stay near (but not too near) the bus to the airport.

I agree that staying in Venice for a night and then going to airport would be best but unfortunately this may not be possible. Can’t change flight without paying exorbitant fee and don’t know if cruise line will let me leave a day earlier. If that’s possible then we will go to Venice as you suggested.
But if we can’t change do you recommend any particular mode of transportation from the port at Chioggia to VCE?
That is the big question now.
Ship stated that they will not provided transporation since we booked flight independently.
Thanks

That is the big question now.

Take the bus #85.

Or, depending on your budget, a private driver to Mestre Station and a bus to VCE, you could try to organise a shared van on Cruise Critic forum.

Do the buses take suitcases?
We will have a large one and two carryons?
Any experience with taxies? Assume they would be faster and more direct.

I guess a bus going to the airport can either takes luggage or looses half of its potential customers. To be sure, check on the site I linked or send them an email.

Any experience with taxies?

It's 60 kms and cabs work on the meter. I'd find a private driver and agree on a fixed fare.

I would think very carefully about your options here. You are right, you need to see if the cruise line allows for early (day before)departures. Most don't, but yours might. Which cruise line are you on?

Did you click on the link for bus 85? It gives clear information. I've never been on any bus that didn't allow luggage.

Five hours prior to boarding is a bit of a pain, but it is only 2 hours earlier than you would need to be there anyway. If you consider the cost of an extra hotel night in Venice vs. the already paid night on the cruise line, do those two hours make that big of a difference to you?

Will be arriving on Azamara ship Journey.
Also found website for private transportation from Chioggia to VCE or Venice, named Taxi Transfer Italy.
Price is not cheap but they seem to be dependable and will pick us up at cruise port.
Wondering if anyone have heard about them.

From Azamara website: It sounds like it is possible but you must receive permission.

If you need to join your voyage late or leave early, it is important to submit your request well in advance of your departure date. Various domestic and international laws govern the ability to join or depart from a voyage in progress, based on a ship's itinerary and guest's citizenship. Your advance request will enable us to tell you whether your proposed schedule changes are permitted.

For more information, call 800.256.6649 (option 3). Please take note of the cut-off dates for submission of your request. No refunds or prorated fares can be granted if you join a voyage late or leave early. Some governments impose fines or other charges when a guest permanently debarks from a voyage before its final port of call, and the departing guest will be responsible for these charges.

We will be on a cruise ship in October docking at Chioggia. We want to know what is the best, easiest and the least expensive way to get from the Chioggia port to Venice Piazzale Roma? I believe there is a bus. If so, how far is the bus station from the port in Chioggia and what is the cost? Also is the bus direct and how long does it take?

Patti, if you read through the answers just above several of your questions are answered.

If you note the highlighted bus number midway down you can click on it and get the schedule and departure point.
