Visited Chioggia as a day trip from Venice about 10 years ago. We took the route via the Lido. It involved a bus on the Lido which drove on to a ferry to Pellestrina, a 10 km drive along Pellestrina, then off the bus on to another ferry to Chioggia itself. It took about two hours from Venice. There is a land route by bus between Venice and Chioggia but no experience of that. I understand that there is a direct boat service in the summer, every day at 9am returning each evening at 5pm, but you would need to check up on that. The town is a very busy fishing port, one of the biggest in Italy. We spent about 3 hours there including eating a very good lunch for a very reasonable price at the Antico Toro on the main street Corso del Popolo. Of course fish and seafood are the specialities. It is a nice change from Venice and we thought it attractive but not really a destination in terms of art/architecture rather the chance to see another aspect of life on the Lagoon.
