chioggia from venice

Has anyone taken the tourist boat to Chioggia from Venice? It looks interesting, perhaps a lower key visit than the Murano/Burano/Torcello trips. And when does boat service get suspended at summer's end?

Chioggia's a nice town, interesting to explore with numerous canals and a fair number of restaurants. The older part is kind of a working class Venice without the grand palazzi and the tourists. It also has a significant more modern resort/beach area.

However, the boat trip from Venice is rather long and I don't think most travellers would find it especially memorable. I'd say worth a detour, but not a special trip.

I've never taken a boat there - it would take too long for me - but I have driven there in my car because it is close to where my Dad fought in WWII. There isn't a lot to see - at least I didn't find much. Plenty of mosquitos was my memory (poor Dad) and it still a pretty long way to the Flamingos south of Comacchio.

We may just skip it then. This was just a whim anyway, because we are gardeners and happen to grow a beet variety called Chioggia :-)
