Chianti or Montepulciano?

Headed to Italy Feb 20--Mar5. Can't decide which region to stay in after a 3 night stay in Florence. We want the best restaurants and vineyard options. We were thinking about an agriturisimo but may not be the best option.

Throw Montalcino into the list of choices. That would be my favorite - love those Brunello wines!

I have just booked 3 nights in Fattoria Tregole in Chianti this is its description on it's website. it comes highly recommended by travellers on TripAdvisor.
Fattoria Tregole is your unique vine farm and charming residence in Tuscany in the heartland of Chianti Classico. From our terrace you can see the vineyards in an unspoiled countryside. Food is a real feature of a visit here. Enjoy the dinners and try our Chianti Classico wine. This is the perfect place where you can relax and refresh yourself and brighten up again. If you love breath-taking vistas, history and local cuisine, Fattoria Tregole will make you feel at home. The estate, nestled in the silent Chianti hills between Florence and Siena is mentioned in documents that date as far back as the 10th century, can boast an ancient wine cellar and a 16th century chapel. The beautifully restored property is located in the heart of the historical Gallo Nero Chianti Classico region and is surrounded by vineyards and lush woodlands.
We can do a wine tour it has a restaurant and cooking classes
Hope this helps.

I would recommend Montepulciano as a great choice. Many vineyards nearby, many have tasting rooms in the town. The town itself has much to offer, delicious restaurants, fantastic views over the lovely Tuscan countryside, delightful and friendly people, and good shopping opportunities. We always stay at Appartimenti Bellarmino, which is reasonably priced and offers kitchenettes, and is a one minute walk away from the Duomo and main square.

We spent 2 weeks in Montepulciano a few years ago -- great town with many good restaurants and stunning views out over the Val d'Chiana and the Val d'Orcia. We find that area MUCH more beautiful than Chianti but we are not that interested in vineyards -- wine yes, but vineyards, except as scenery no. There is at least one hotel in the walls with parking, probably others.
