Thinking of a day trip driving into Chianti region on S-222. Is there any town(s) that we should target and any favorite wineries? Probably do it on a Monday Sept 29...Thanks.

Just drive through it and you'll hit all important towns, like Greve and Castellina.
From Florence to Siena it's about 90 min on that curvy road. But then you must add the pit stops to "fill up the tank with the red fuel" along the way. No specific winery to suggest, just follow the grey signs to the "aziende vinicole". In Greve along the river near the parking lot there is a wine store that has automatic dispensers from all wineries. Just buy a prepaid card (several denominations) , insert it in the many dispensers and taste until all the money in the card is depleted, then replenish the card. Repeat. Pass out.
