Chianti driving tour

We will be in Firenze for two nights and then in Siena for 5 nights. We want to drive the Chianti region and stop at a vineyard or two for tasting. Second week of October. Any suggestions for route and stops fromSiena?

You should drive the historic Chiantigiana,
SR 222 that connected Siena to Florence.
We have stayed in Radda, Castellina, and Panzano several times each and there are many vineyards and wineries in this area. We would see a sign, drive down a dirt road and find one. Often not English speakers but they would set up tastings, give you an order form, all set. Chianti is green vs the yellow of other parts of Tuscany.

I second Suki's advice. We stayed at Castillo di Verrazzano. Check them for a wine tasting. There's lots of others along the way.

In older books, before he had the scenic driving loop in the Val d'Orcia, Rick recommended the same 222 and SP2bis section. We did it this year on our trip for a morning in June and it was lovely. But I found that ordering wine before noon, even at an enoteca, got me some very strange looks from the proprietor.

Also, just today I got notified of a speeding ticket from Florence on my car rental. Speed camera in town clocked me at 62 kph in a 50 kph zone. I thought I was being very careful, but it just takes a second. Be warned. The fine's only 59 euros but I'm sure the rental company is going to pile on also for the administrative fees...
