Chianti Classico from Siena

Hi there,
We'll be in a farmhouse near Siena for a couple of days and want to visit the Chianti Classico vineyard. What would you suggest is best? Renting a car (though we don't speak Italian, never driven in Europe nor know how to drive a stick) or look for a van tour to pick us up? If the latter, do you know of any that pick up from Siena and go directly to Chianti Classico? We're okay if there are other stops included.
Thanks!

If the distance from Siene is not that far, use a taxi. We have visit wineries in the Tuscany area and frequently saw taxi dropping people off and picking up others. For just one winery the taxi would probably be cheaper than renting a car and much more convenient.

suzy,

To begin with, one point to clarify is that Chianti Classico is not produced at just one winery. It's a type of wine from the Chianti region that uses Sangiovese grapes (among others), and like most wines is somewhat unique due to the terroir. You may find these websites helpful.....

Using a tour rather than driving would be much preferred as that would allow you to do some tasting. Italy has very strict impaired limits, so I wouldn't recommend renting a car. There may be some tours listed in the guidebook. The people renting the farmhouse may have some good tips on local tour operators.
