I am going to Rome and Florence in October so I am trying to make all my museum reservations now but some of the web sights I go to have expensive service charges. What sights are the best? I want to go to the Vatican, Borghese, Accademia and Uffizi. What is the best time of day to go? Any help will be great!
For the vatican museums you can book entry tickets or a tour at: http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?weblang=en&do For the Borghese gallery you can book at: http://www.ticketeria.it/ticketeria/borghese-regolamento-eng.asp Use the call back number. If you have the romapass you can let them know you're using it. I wouldn't do the vatican museums on Monday or Wednesday. Anytime is good for the Borghese but they are closed on Mondays. The vatican museums are closed on Sundays with the exception of the last one of the month when they are free and very crowded. Donna
For Florence museums (Uffizi and Accademia) the answer used to be a website called B-ticket; it's in Rick's book. but they must have lost the contract or something; I see they are not making reservations past the end of September. Now the Uffizi website says they use WAF, which charges 5,25 euro for a service fee. That's still better than most of the "third party" websites, some of which charge a service fee of 10,00 euro or more. Still, I found the simplest answer was to call. They give you a confirmation number that you use to pick up your tickets at the reserved time. You do not pay in acdvance, but you do pay the 4 euro reservation fee when you pick up your tickets.
