Checked luggage

Will I have a problem if I pack a 32 ounce bottle of hair conditioner ( favor for friend) in my checked bag?

No. But I would double bag in ziplock freezer bags.

Only if it breaks open! I'd put it in a ziplock bag (or even double) to be safe.

Definately double bag it!

Other things you can do:

  • squeeze the extra air out of the bottle (more room for expansion)
  • place a small square of plastic wrap over the top of the bottle threads and screw the screw cap over it.
  • put it inside of a plastic shoe box or some other rigid item so it doesn't get crushed.

Yes, you can take a 32oz bottle in your checked luggage.

This is what I would do:

  • Pour 2-3 ounces out of the 32 oz bottle into a small bottle--- this will allow room for expansion, if any.
  • Place bottles into double or even triple ziploc bags. You can pack bottles separately if you'd like.
  • Make sure you pack the bottle, in between your clothes, in the middle of your suitcase, so this way it's cushioned all the way around.

Enjoy your trip!

Check Amazon first. I almost did this with sunscreen in France that I had not seen in the US. Sure enough, available through Amazon.

Thank you for all the advice. One more concern is that it will be more likely that my bag will be searched?

Think about that- do you think security will publish what makes them more or less likely to search a checked bag ?

If they search your bag, it will be done behind the scenes. They don't usually search it with you standing there.

..........will be more likely that my bag will be searched?....

Why? Absolutely not!!! Bags are rarely searched.

Frank I travel a lot for work (weekly if not more) and often I have to check a bag. At least twice this year I've gotten my bag back with a nice notice from TSA that it's been searched. Common, probably not. But it does happen.

Happens to me fairly often domestically as well, and I don't travel much in the US. I suspect the jar of peanut butter might have something to do with it. (No, I don't take that to Europe. Well, I did once, about 40 years ago.)

My suitcase was chosen for inspection at random at Schipol; the agent took it behind s screen, brought it back, said, "This is very well packed", and I replied, "Years of practice".

On several occasions we've opened our checked bags to find notices from the TSA that they'd been searched so yes, it does happen. I might reason that the appearance of a large, cylindrical-shaped object showing up during xray screening might give them more cause than not to perform a hand inspection.
