Check in Time for International Flight (9:55 AM) at Rome's Fiumicino Airport?

I am flying out of Fiumicino on a Tuesday in July. What time should I arrive to get checked in so that I don't miss my flight?
It leaves at 9:55 AM, but I think the terminal doesn't open until 7 AM? Can you arrive early and que up? Any information or tips would be really appreciated! Thank you! :)

The airport opens early for all those 6:00-7:00 am flights to other European gateway cities. Unfortunately those flying out on international flights will be sitting around until late morning until their departures. Too bad they couldn't have chosen a later flight out of FCO where they could have slept longer.

I'd try to be at the airport at 8:00 a.m. for a 10:00 flight out. It's no the most efficient airport security to get through.

Well, mizchirp...

Please go look at the thread titled "Fire at FCO Terminal 3" under 'Italy' (sorry; oftentimes some of us can't cut and paste on the Forum on our iPads, and this is one of those days for me). On a normal day, I would arrive at FCO at least 3 hours before departure. Any extra time post-security can be spent with an espresso or having lunch. FCO is not known for being a model of efficiency :-(

IF your flight is a direct flight back to the US you should have no problem. You check in at Terminal 6 (or is it 5?) which is dedicated to flights direct to the USA. If it opens at 7 and you arrive at that time that is 2hours and 55 minutes before the flight and is plenty of time. For complete details go to roninrome.com and look at his information on this type of flight. It has all of the exact details.
If it is not a direct flight back to the US give us more information about your flights. But roninrome.com can answer them also.

Which airline is operating the flight and what is the destination?
If it is a U.S. Based carrier (Delta, American, etc) you will check in at T5 then shuttled back airside to T3.
2 to 2.5 hours prior to departure is sufficient.

When you should be there also depends on whether you are checking any luggage. If yes, then 2.5 hours. If not, then 1.5 hours would probably be plenty, assuming you're connecting to another flight in Europe.
