I'm going to Europe for 2 months. I'll be using the trains, probably, to travel from Zurich to Nuremberg and from Nuremberg to Budapest and then Prague to Nuremberg. I'll be using it 3 times. Which is the cheapest way to get around? I'll also be using the train to do day trips within Germany. Any suggestions will be helpful!
Thanks,
Sharon
Tip 1: Become intimately familiar with Die Bahn.
Tip 2: Purchase tickets as early as possible to save money on train fares.
The cheapest way to Nürnberg from Zurich seems to be the train. The journey is about 5 hours long and has a connection (sometimes two). Purchase tickets as early as possible to save money on train fares.
For Nuernberg-Budapest, probably your best choice would be to travel overnight, booking Nuernberg-Muenchen and Muenchen-Budapest separately at www.bahn.de so you can get Spar-Night fares for the Muenchen-Budapest night train. Book as far in advance as possible (up to 90 days allowed).
Thanks Martine and Tim. I appreciate the info. Would either of you know of an inexpensive place to stay in Zurich for several days? I'm too old for a hostel, but really don't need a deluxe place.
