Cheap, reliable transportation from Palermo to Palermo airport

I’m looking for a good way to get to the airport from Central Palermo. Want something inexpensive but not too much of a hassle. Any suggestions?

We took the train from the Palermo Palazzo Reale-Orleans station to Palermo airport (we caught the one that takes about 35 minutes but there are others that take almost an hour). That station is close to
the Chiesa di San Giovanni degli Eremiti. There were also trains from Palermo Centrale train station that would have taken an hour. We figured that the bigger train station would be more of a hassle --- the Palazzo Reale-Orleans station was like a metro station. I forget the cost, but something like $5.

Prestia e Comande operates a shuttle bus to the airport that departs twice per hour from its station (Piazza Carioli) right at Palermo Centrale (main train station). Departures appear to be on the hour and half hour. Buy your ticket (6.5 Euro) online or at the station (or from the driver for a surcharge). Load your luggage under the bus before boarding. The trip takes 50 minutes without traffic. We used this bus to go the other direction, from the airport to Palermo Centrale, and it was easy and comfortable.

Thanks for all the replies. I bought a ticket for the airport bus and will probably take an Uber to the train station since I have heavy bags and it’s a 20 minute walk. Grazie

You don't mention where you're staying, but if you want an inexpensive way to get to the station there are also trams, metro and local buses.

I ended up taking a taxi to Palermo Centrale from my hotel in the Kalsi neighborhood and took the airport bus from there. I bought my ticket online. A taxi to he station was much cheaper than an Uber. I downloaded the ItTaxi app which was easy to use. Taxi cost 15 euros. Bus ticket was 6 euros. Note: from Centrale station the bus makes 4 stops before the airport so allow about an hour. Also, the bus only allows a certain number of people on at each stop, so that there are still seats left at the last stop. Get there early or you might have to wait for the next bus. The bus is comfortable, inexpensive and easy. My travel companion had an earlier flight and spent 60 euros on a car and driver the hotel arranged.
