My sister and I are going to be in Rome for a week in June. I have been to Rome twice, on group trips, and know my way around. We are not conserned about staying in 3+ star places, but do want something fairly centrally located, ie. around the Trevi Fountain area was one thought. I found one place on line called The Three Coins. It sounded basic, but acceptable. Any suggestions for hotels, or good websites to find affordable accomodations would be greatly appreciated. Ciao, e miele grazie! Joanie
I was hoping for something no more than 100 Euro per night. Is that considered reasonable and market rate for 2-3 star accomodations?
Thanks for your reply.
Joanie
Hotel Panda...right in the heart of the Spanish Steps for less than 100 Euros a night...go to www.hotelpanda.it
Clean and very nice staff.
Another option to keep in mind is to get a room without a private bath. That's one way to save a lot of money, but it involves a trade off, of course.
I am staying at Hotel Selene, I have no idea if it is " central" as I am joining a RS family tour there, I do know my room has a/c and private facilities , and is well reveiwed on tripadvisor.com as being a good, clean, decent type place, and it only cost me 90 euros, I had to book an extra night before tour so I know how much rooms go for in July.
We recently stayed at the Comfort Hotel Bolivar which is right in the heart of Rome within easy walking distance of the Colosseo, Trevi, Spanish steps and Pantheon. It is in a quiet ally away from traffic off via Nazionale just around the corner from the bus stop. Ask for room 311. It has a covered balcony. €235 though. Really nice people there too.
I've posted this recently on a few other Roman hotel inquiries, so check those for more detail - but I stayed last September at Hotel Panda (which is like 2 blocks from the Spanish steps). I found the hotel in my "Let's Go!" book (you can goole the website, I think it comes up as Pensione Panda) - which offers some pretty economical options as it's geared towards a younger population. The hotel was like, I think 78 Euro for a double with shared bathroom. It was super clean and actually really cute, I was pleasantly surprised as I was a bit anxious about staying in a "non Rick Steves" hotel. When I asked the hotel desk attendant why the hotel was so cheap, considering the location and how expensive all the neighbor hotels were, he said, "We do not exagerate!" I thought that was funny. Good luck!
Both Jenny and I agree on the Hotel Panda..but the website I provided above will get you there easily...don't know about the website Jenny suggests.
If you are not too familiar with Rome, many people feel that the Spanish Steps is one of the best neighborhoods for visitors in all of Rome. Great people watching, shopping (both expensive and less expensive), dinning and of course sight seeing.
