Cheap Airfare & Hotels - Rome/Florence

I’m in Sicily on business for the summer and want to take a short break in Rome & Florence. So I’ve started looking at flights and found they’re pretty reasonable (used skyscanner.com), but I’d like to see if there’s a better deal out there. I tried groupon and basically found a voucher that’s a 70% off coupon that I can purchase for $9. I have to book the flight through lol.travel. Has anyone every used something like this? I’m not quite sure if I trust it.

Also, does anyone have a favorite hotel in Florence or Rome? I’m looking for something around $80/night or less.

just in general, I wouldn't trust a 3rd party that you have never heard of......but I like skyscanner, it helps get all the options in one place.....

I'm not sure I'd buy anything from an outfit called 'lol'. It might stand for Laughing Out Loud all the way to the bank.

There are many options to both Roma and Tuscany (Pisa or Florence) with Ryan Air, Vueling, and Alitalia.

$80/night is 70€/night and that would be low in Florence and Rome. I don't know of too many places who charge that little, but you can try on any search engine.

We were in Rome last year, and stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen. The en suite double with breakfast was €68. That was off-season, but they're worth checking out. The hotel is clean, quiet, and in walking distance of Termini and many major sights.

I definitely would not use lol travel. I see RyanAir and Vueling offering flights starting at 39 dollars. Why bother to look further than that with a company that sounds pretty shady?

You are all echoing my thoughts on the booking site. I went with vueling and found a decent price.

Jane, thanks for the hotel recommendation!

Michael,

Within that price range you might consider hostels. Some in Italy offer private rooms at reasonable rates. I liked The Beehive in Rome and Ostello Archi Rossi in Florence.
