Our family of 9, 5 adults and 4 young children, will be in Italy for 10 days 4 of which will be in Rome . After Rome we would like to go to a charming coastal town/s for 4-5 days. Our thoughts is the Amalfi but villas are weekly rentals and it seems quite cumbersome getting there. Are there any other places closer to Rome? Again we want an old town/city with beach.

Push you schedule out to spend a week on the Amalfi Coast. It ticks all your boxes and so much more. Take the direct train from Rome to Salerno, then a local SITA bus to any of the towns along the Amalfi Coast. It will be well and truly worth the effort. It is still one of my favourite places in the world. Ravello is the stuff of dreams!!
You can take ferries to the town along the coast too.
