Charity Shops

As we travel, we enjoy shopping in thrift stores and charity shops. We have been unable to find any such stores in Italy. Has anyone found such stores, especially in the vicinity of Florence? Thanks!

Usually called a Mercatino, at least in my area. Prices are usually a little steeper than what you would be used to in a thrift shop but you can find good deals here and there.

I bought a bunch of shirts in Rome at a used clothing store. (We hadn't packed for the warm weather we experienced.) The shirts were in perfect condition and were all 12 euros. Not a thrift store price, but much better than the 70 euro shirts we were seeing along the main retail streets. It was a tiny place that I'm sure I could never find again. Try looking around universities to find a similar place.

St James Church on Via B. Ruccelai, near the train station in Florence has a monthly rummage sale- Wednesdays if memory serves. Rather an extensive operation.
