Charging Phones, Using hair dryer...etc.

Do I need to buy a converter plug for voltage? If so, any recommendations? I know I have in the past, but I no longer have it.

Most hotels will have hairdryers. You can always look on their website and see if it is supplied. If they’re not in the room they often have them at the desk. Things like your phone or computer electronics don’t need a converter. However, you should purchase hairdryers, flat irons, or curling irons that are dual voltage. Along time ago I purchased a flat iron and it was tiny and useless so I looked for a new one for my last vacation this year. I was surprised how many now automatically change voltage. Just look on the box.

For electronics ( phone, tablet, laptop etc) you will need an adaptor for the plug. The items are already dual voltage (just read the info printed on the item) Electrical appliances (like hair dryers, curling irons) are different. Regular north American ones only use 110v, so would need a converter. Dual voltage travel ones would only need a plug adaptor.

Converters are heavy and bulky, and can unexpectedly fail, resulting in a fried appliance. Instead of buying a converter, just get a travel version, or in the case of hair dryers, just use the one already supplied by your hotel.

My hairdryer is dual voltage and has to be switched manually. I do that before I leave home so that I don’t forget because I am jetlagged. My flat iron is dual voltage and switches automatically. I just need plug adapters to use these appliances
