Changes to the campania express schedule

Greetings fellow travelers,

I am currently en route to Napoli centrale via trenitalia and had expected to transfer to the campania express, for which I have already purchased tickets; however, in checking the schedule it appears that the schedule has changed and the train 11531 which was on the schedule to depart at 15:37 at the time of my purchase, is no longer on the schedule…very strange. I guess I will go to the ticket booth upon arrival where I assume they will place me on the next (final) CE of the day?
Thought I would post in the event anyone else has purchased tickets in advance for train 11531…

Yep, you are right Crystal. It has been changed ...I bought tickets on the fast train from Rome to Naples timed purposely to catch the 15:37. As of now the Campania leaves around 14:30 - just a few minutes BEFORE my train from Rome arrives. So, what do i do? wait for the 17:00 ish train for 3 hrs; or, take the Circumvesuviana (which my wife refuses to ride); or hire a private car and pay the 150 Euro...oh well.

Fjj- You use that three hours to go grab some Pizza! That is what we did, stored our luggage at the Naples train station and took a taxi to get some Pizza and 3 hours was a good amount of time to do this and not be rushed.

OK ...now call me confused. I just re-checked, and it now shows the 15:37 departure from Naples is back on. Look at Sorrentoreview.com/campania which states it was updated in June 2023. It seems like this might be correct. (hope)

well, maybe not. just went on the website to purchase tickets ("online ticket system - campania express"), and yes, you guessed it...no 15:37. only 14:26. Maybe not a big deal for some, but for us it is.

Sorry for the delay in responding - we finally arrived in Sorrento after catching the 17:26 CE and have been able to enjoy some time in Sorrento this evening after 8 hours of train headaches!

We purchased from the official site here:
https://ots.eavsrl.it/web/public/ots/ticket/index
I had tried from the app but couldn’t figure it out, even when I tried to register.

We had originally booked our train to Napoli with a buffer of 1 hr to make the 15:37 and after our train was delayed, we barely missed the earlier CE and had to wait for the 17:26, so we had a 2 hour wait. If we had more time and could have planned we would have taken Letizias advice to store our luggage and go for pizza.

For what it is worth, the Napoli train station was super easy to navigate. We found the campania express ticket windows with ease and when we showed our tickets the worker was confused and said we could take the 17:26..but I insisted he print us new tickets showing the 17:26 time. After printing the new tickets, he told us to come back at 17:10 and wait there by the ticket window. When we did so were about 50 other people and the workers escorted us all down to the platform and onto the train. It was very smooth.

fjj3748 - I, like your wife, did not want to do the regular commuter train my first run with all of my luggage. It was worth the wait but very hot in the station; we took the opportunity to browse the (air conditioned) shops and go upstairs to get a glimpse at Napoli and enjoy the cooler breeze and shade..

Thanks so much Crystal! I'm glad you made it into Sorrento safely, and i hope you enjoy your stay there. I do appreciate you sharing your experience with us, it is very helpful and it confirmed what i needed to do. I bit the bullet and purchased new (earlier) tickets from Rome so we could make the 14:26 CE to Sorrento, and then purchased the CE tickets themselves. I was really kind of relieved to hear that the process at Garibaldi went smoothly. You have helped us greatly! THANK YOU!

Just reporting back on our return via CE from Sorrento to Napoli - smooth and easy but some info to share that may be useful for others.

Upon arriving at the Sorrento train station for departure, we made our way upstairs and showed our ticket to a worker at the exit gates. He instructed us to wait just in front of the exit gates upstairs and they would bring us in about 10 minutes before departure. My husband went back downstairs to locate the toilet while we waited; meanwhile they started waving CE patrons through 5 minutes earlier (15 min before departure). When he returned and we went through I then realized I should use the toilet before the ride so I made my way down to the toilet inside the platform - while it noted a fee, there was no operator and the coins when placed in the machine were immediately returned - I guess it was free. However, important to note 2 of the 3 stalls were out of order and there was a line, so would not attempt if you do not have 10 min. Also, the stall was sans TP - so another vote to bring TP with you to be safe.

Our train to Roma was the first of our 3 trenitalia rides this trip without issue. I know it is unusual for delays, but this trip we had the worst luck with delays, which leads to another vote to build in buffer for delays.
