Chances of finding slits for Duomo climb after arriving in Florence in June

Our family of 4 will be in Florence in late June. We plan to buy Firenze card to take advantage of the flexibility it offers. My question is what are the chances that we would be able to reserve spots for Duomo climb with our Firenze cards after we arrive in Florence (we will be there for 3 nights)? Thank you.

I meant to say finding slots, not slits.

Per RS article about Making Museum Reservations in Florence, chances are slim for same day slots/reservations. You maybe able to reserve a slot for the next day or 2. But then again...you might get lucky.

Also...look to see if purchasing the Firenze cards will be worth it.

We were in Florence in July 2017. We arrived on Friday, purchased Duomo tickets, and made the dome climb reservation for Sunday. We had our choice of times, so if you are flexible I would think that you should have no trouble. (We didn't check on Saturday since we had other plans.) Be sure to allow enough time to visit the Duomo Museum and the Baptistry. Both have MUCH to offer!

Hi knhellesky,

I did read about RS comment on reserving Duomo climb ahead of time, especially in summer time. I think with what we planned to see, we will easily spend about 55 Euro for entry tickets, and perhaps more. I am mostly buying Firenze card for the flexibility it affords so we don't have to have rigid plan on what day/time to go where.

Den,

Thank you for the information. We will arrive on Monday and leave on Thursday evening. Based on your experience, I think I will book the Duomo climb using the Firenze card after we get there, and save the money for lunch. Thanks again!

I’m reading a book now I discovered on this website that may interest you...Brunelleschi’s Dome, by Ross King. I think it would offer some interesting background to your climb. Safe travels.

Thank you, Denny.

I just placed a request at our local library for the book. It is always so much more satisfying to have some knowledge of the history, general background, and other tidbits related to the sites before visiting and then have the "Aha" moments while there.

You’re welcome. I found out about it in Recommended Book and Movies. Enjoy your visit.

We were in Florence mid-may last year. My wife and son wanted to climb the dome, and we chose not to try to reserve spots before leaving home. Our RS tour guide told everyone in Venice not to obsess about reserving until we got to Florence. Once there, we went to the ticket office and bought Duomo tickets and reserved times for the climb, using the self-service kiosks. Spots were available for the following afternoon, when we knew we had free time. It was an easy process and my wife and son really enjoyed the climb and the view.

We had been checking fairly regularly before leaving home and it seemed there were usually spots available for the following several days, though they often were all booked for the same day we looked. I think many, many, many people don't book until they're in Florence, so as long as you have a little flexibility, I'd imagine you could find available times during your three days in the city. They move a lot of people through there every day. And make sure you hang onto both the Duomo combo ticket AND the slip with your reservation time printed on it. Otherwise, you'll be turned away.

BTW, we totally fell in love with Florence from the moment we arrived. Have a great time!

Denny,

Thanks again. I will take a look at that page.

stoutfella,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I will stop worrying about not having an opportunity to climb the dome at Duomo. I like to read people's accounts of their travels when I do my research and planing. I get increasingly more excited as the time for departure nears. This way I get to "stretch" my vacation to several months instead of two weeks. :)
