Certosa di Pavia

I have always missed the Certosa di Pavia. Has anyone here had first hand knowledge of it? Worth the detour? Thanks

Definitely worth the detour!! Especially if you like churches. Once you get off the train, there is nothing around except for the monastery on the horizon. It is quite impressive. You get to tour around inside and get to see the cloisters outside as well. I would have really enjoyed getting to walk around in the fields outside, but they don't let you explore the entire area. But it's still nice to even get to walk around the perimeter walls. The nave and central apse are great, and I always found myself looking up. But again, you get to tour around and it's all free, except they ask for (and essentially expect) a donation, which I found to be well worth the price of admission. So, while there's literally nothing else around except for the monastery, I certainly enjoyed it and ended up spending hours there. If you enjoy art/architecture and churches, certainly worth the stop.
