Centrally located lodging in Tuscany

Hi, we're mid 60s couple planning to spend 4-5 days in Tuscany in mid October, will have a car. We'd like to be centrally located among Siena, Assissi, and Val D'Orcia towns for day tripping, in a decent place with private bath. Does not have to be luxurious. Open to just lodging, B&B, inn/hotel. Please share your experiences. Thanks.

You mention Assisi which is not in Tuscany rather in Umbria. Siena is in Chianti region, west of Val d’Orcia. We have always stayed in one area or the other. Or in Umbria. Can you narrow it down as Tuscany is a large area? Or are you open to staying in any of the three you mention?

Hi Suki. Thanks for your response. We are looking for a centrally located space as we plan to visit all those places. Assissi is a late add-in, having been told by so many not to miss.

We spent four nights (last June) at Il Canto del Sole, a small, lovely rural B&B just outside Siena. It was the perfect base to visit Siena, Pienza, Montepulciano and other small towns. We then stayed in Montone, a small hill town in Umbria...much closer to Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, etc.

Consider Castello di Verrazzano, just outside Greve.

We spent a wonderful week in Tuscany using it as our home base. It is convenient to Siena, Florence, Radda, San Gimignano, Volterra, Montalcino and Montepuciano. Assisi and Lucca are a stretch, but doable.

Their food and wine pairing is unbelievable and the breakfasts were just amazing. The rooms are clean efficient and rustic. It is also reasonable. Mid October will be a great time to be in the region.
