We have allotted 5 days in Tuscany for family of 7. Need central, no frills lodging to access towns for active pursuits and attractions ( not museums or wineries). Would travel 1-1/2 hours for day trips. Pool even better but not required. Will have transportation. Suggestions?
We enjoyed our stay at the Relais Vignale in Radda in Chianti. It has a nice pool and vineyard views. Easy drives to Florence, Siena and the other Chianti villages such as Psnzano, Castellina, Gaiole, Greve etc.
However, with such a large group, perhaps renting a cottage would be better. We have used
Chianti and More for local rentals.
The possibilities are endless.
First decide on what towns you want to see, then focus on a central zone where you can travel to them more easily.
If you stay at a location not too far from the Florence-Siena freeway, you'd be able to travel to places faster. Most roads in Tuscany otherwise are really curvy and slow.
Do you only have one vehicle for all 7? And also what are the ages of your group. Years ago we stayed in a Villa with 3 generations and Roberto is right, windy roads made getting to destinations a bit longer than anticipated. While we still had a great time, it is something to consider.
I would personally consider Sienna. It is a big enough town that you can enjoy some of your time there, and that if some of your group does not want to go daytripping they can find stuff in town to enjoy.
When is your trip?
