I would like to visit Rome i want to stay maybe in the center of Rome i would like to walk to a lot of the sites and monuments what area should i look in when looking for a hotel.................. Thank you
Centro Storico (Spagna, Trevi, pantheon, Navona, maybe Quirinale). http://www.nycerome.com/alberghi-a-roma.html
Thanks, Will this be close to the Forum etc i have never hurd of this area
You will pay a higher price to stay in the center. Personally for us the center is not important simply because old Rome is pretty compact. At most it probably no more more than a couple of miles in diameter, We stay on the edge in the Termini area and still walk to everything, From that location is about an hour walk to the Vatican but that is the far other side. And buses are decent so that you can use them to get around easily. The subway is not very useful.
I enjoy walking i just don't want to over due it. I think walking you get to see more. I thank you for your thoughts...............Any good hotels you can tell me about
I agree with Roberto, the historic center is the best place to be for day and evening/night sights. You can easily get to the Forum by bus if you prefer not to walk. Let me know via Private Message if you want hotel info. Bus #116 is an electric minibus which is fun for an orientation ride (buy and validate your bus ticket). Best website for info on Rome is RonInRome.com.
I gave you a website (nycerome) which is pretty good. Venere.com and booking.com are also good. Make sure to click in the Centro Storico (historical center) areas I told you. You'll be walking distance from everything.
Thanks for your help everyone............
Marilyn As your geography of Rome seems to be a little light I suggest looking at a good guidebook of Rome. Rick Steves does a pretty good one and has lots of suggestions. There will be map pages you can look at which will help you get oriented. Rome is walkable but there is a fair distance between many places. It will be time well spent to have a good idea of where places are.
Marilyn, This past October I stayed at this b and b which can't be any more centrally located: http://www.bbalcentrodiroma.com/eng/
Nice rooms and a reasonable price especially for the location. You are a very short walk from the Pantheon, Campo de fiori and Piazza Novana. I highly recommend it!
We stayed at Hotel Memphis. Nice hotel, reasonably priced and we could walk to alot of the sights. It was also close to the train station, very easy to take that as well.
I agree with Nigel, Marilyn. You'll feel much more confident about your travel plans if you spend a little time right now with a decent guidebook, studying the maps of Rome. Rick Steves happens to write a very helpful series of guidebooks that will be the smartest money you could spend on your vacation. Happy travels.
I would recommend Nicolas Inn. It is on Via Cavour 295. About a ten minute walk from the Forum and about a 15 minute walk from the from the Colosseum. Also very close to the Metro. My daughter and I stayed there a few days last March and loved it! We payed around 90 euros at that time.
Thanks to you all for all the help
My husband and I loved staying at the River Palace Hotel, Rome. It receives great reviews on Trip advisor. I have recommended the hotel to four different travellers and they were very happy. The hotel is very pretty and in a safe area. We could walk to the Fountain of Trevi, The Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Victor Emanuel Monument, the famous garden (I forget its name), etc. They served breakfast in their lovely dining room. There is a very comfortable lobby to wind down. There is also an area, which looks out over the street. The work area has two computers you can use, for free.
I'll agree with staying in the Centro Storico (the historic center of Rome) as that's where you're going to find just about every first-timer's must-sees. It is more compact than you might think, and walking is recommended as you'll see more that way. However, public transit is very easy to use for whisking from one side to another in a short time. On our last visit, we stayed at Domus Romana:
http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/residence-domus-romana.en.html This is in the Repubblica area and is walking distance from Termini: very nice for easy access to/from the airport via shuttles or Leonardo Express, and to both metro lines (they intersect at Termini). Nice hotel: clean, quiet, safe, and breakfast included in the tariff.
