I received an offer for a discounted monthly cell/data plan on ItaliaMobile when I bought train tickets. It looks like a much better deal than what Verizon can provide me. Have you had any experience with ItaliaMobile- service, reliability etc?

I presume you are talking about TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile), there isn't another provider called Italia Mobile.
TIM and Vodafone are the two largest providers and of course very reliable.
However I don't know if the offer you got is through a third party that is going to charge you more.
If you buy on your own, it is 30€. If you are offered one for more, then someone is taking a cut.

Either TIM or Vodaphone are great choices. But make sure your phone is unlocked.
