Cell phone stores in Rome

Does anyone have the name of reputable stores where I can get an iPhone sim card & cheap cell phone? Won't be going into Termini Station. Coming in to airport, but heard the Smartphone is not accessible.

Thomas, I'm not really clear on why you would need an "iPhone SIM card" as well as a cheap Cell phone? Will you be travelling with an iPhone? It would help to know where else you'll be going, since you won't be transiting through Termini? You'll find Cell phone shops in just about any town, so it shouldn't be difficult to find an inexpensive phone. You could also buy an inexpensive phone from one of the "travel phone" firms here, and that way you'd have a working phone as soon as you step off the plane. Happy travels!

I looked to AT&T, and found out I could take my multi-channel smart phone to Italy for $5.99 plus .99 per minute for calls incoming and outgoing. Just hope nobody from home calls you while you're gone, as you're charged and it could get expensive. But, if you didn't have the texting cut off before going, your next phone bill could be a surprise. Using the GPS function could also be expensive. Another option is to go into a phone store in Italy to purchase a SIM card for my smart phone that'd give me an Italian phone #. You buy a E5, E10, etc. card. It's a good way to make local cards to hotels and resturants. A third option is to buy an international calling card to use with the above SIM card to call to the U.S. I'm going to take my MagicJack Plus module (from my home phone) to plug into my Notebook that runs by WiFi. I'll be able to phone home for free on the internet. You don't even have to dial the country code that way.

Thomas, As I recall, the iPhone 3G uses a standard size SIM card rather than a micro-SIM as used in the 4S. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a PAYG SIM after you get settled in Rome. However, I'm not sure whether you'll be able to get a calling plan that includes data (if you wanted that capability), as those are often available only to those on a contract plan. The sales rep. at the stores will be able to advise further. TIM is one of the networks in Italy you could consider, but the coverage shouuld be similar with all networks in the major cities. Cheers!

Phone stores are everywhere in Rome - we had 5 or 6 on our street. What is the address/location of your apartment and perhaps someone can help you?

little corner stores and small shops which sell simms are 10 a penny. Most would not be names you could look up on the internet or phone book.
