I'm visiting Italy this summer from the US and am thinking of bringing an unlocked phone that I'm no longer using for use there. I'd get a sim, slide it into the Nokia TA-1085, and be mobile in Italy. Question is, is it better to buy and install the sim here at home or in Italy?
Check the Technology Tips section of the travel forum. There are LOTS of discussions of how to manage cell phone connections and usage in Europe.
Have fun.
Better depends on your needs. If better means that a knowledgeable clerk sets everything up and off you go, then get it at your destination. If you enjoy a DIY technical challenge and want a SIM that you can set up beforehand and keep (and maintain with periodic texts) across multiple trips, then buying one ahead of time has appeal. When I started taking more and longer trips, having a permanent SIM for my travels to Europe was better for me.
