Does anyone have experience renting a cell phone to use in Italy? I have AT&T cell here in the states --- wondering if it could be used for emergencies.
WE have ATT too. My daughter went to Italy in August. WE texted each other. They do have a plan for around $12 per month to be added.(you can call them for the exact price) Then I think it was something like $2.20 per minute. But the texting I think was if you receive a tex ..it cost .25..if you sent it..it was .50.
After doing a lot of reading and deciding whether to buy one of the phones that you can use there, I decided to just buy a phone card there if I need it. We will have internet at our hotels too that are free usage. I can send a text from internet to my kids phone too and they always have their phones on. In my case though, my kids are grown.

Your ATT phone will work in Italy. Charges are about $1.20 per minute incoming or outgoing. You can pay a monthly fee to get a $.99/min rate. If you think you'll use your phone for even 15 minutes its probably worthwhile; add before you go, cancel when you return.
Before you go, call ATT to make sure they have enabled your account so your phone will work overseas.
