cell phone charger

Okay, I'm buying a cordless battery-operated flat iron for the trip, and my hotels have hair dryers. However, I am going to need to charge my phone at least twice while I'm there, so will I need a plug adapter and/or a voltage converter? Thanks.

Hi Nancy,
Check the AC adapter on your phone to make sure that it can accept 220 volts (it very likely will.) Then you'll need a simple plug adapter and not a voltage converter.

Nancy,

It would help to know which brand of Cell Phone you're using? Most Motorola phones are equipped with "world chargers" and this is becoming more common with other brands as well. As most of the phones (except for the CDMA models) are sold world-wide, it makes a lot of business sense to supply these with a Charger that can operate just about anywhere in the world (only the plug tips have to be changed for each area).

Check the "nameplate" of your Charger. If this states Input Voltage 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz then you will only need an inexpensive Plug Adaptor specific to the countries you'll be visiting. However, if this states 115 VAC, 60 Hz then you will also need a transformer-based Voltage Converter.

Before proving further recommendations, I'll wait for details on your Charger.

One other VERY important consideration is which network your Cell Phone is with? If you're with Verizon or Sprint, your phone won't work in Europe.

Cheers!
