Cell phone area code

When I dial a 4-digit Italian area code on my cell phone such as 0532, my phone automatically inserts a dash between the last 2 digits, for example 053-2
Because of the dash, the number is not recognized.
How to get rid of the dash?

Problem solved by dialing +
Thanks everybody

clarov48, because this is your very first post on this board, I urge you to come back and provide more information:
From where is your phone service provided (country of mobile provider contract?)
Name of cell service provider?
Are you a resident of Italy or a short-term visitor?
What model and brand of phone are you using?

I recommend that others not answer this thread until the OP comes back.

In general, visible hyphens on a cell phone screen do not produce transmitted data. It is true that cell phones sometimes analyze a number and insert a prefix that is not visible on the screen.

Just agreeing with Tim - we need to know what carrier (cell phone provider) you are using, and what country it's based in. Also agreeing with him that dashes shouldn't affect a call - but the other things he asked about will. So, please answer his questions, so we can help you.

clarov,

The dash is most likely being generated by the OS in your phone, and has no bearing on the actual dialing process. I suspect the problem is the number format you're using. You might try it without the zero prefix.

I agree with the others that more information would be really helpful.

Are you also dialing 011 to get an international line from the US and the Italian country code (39)? But instead of that plan, when using a cell phone, you can skip the 011 and instead type a + sign (which I interpret as “letting the phone figure it out”). So +390532etc. Also described on the link on the first reply.
