Hi
I have a question.I am traveling to Italy from Portugal.I have a phone that uses a prepaid sim card.I want o know if I can use the same sim card I have from Portugal to call in Italy or do I have to buy one from Italy once I am there.
Thanks
SIM cards from one European country work in all others, it is called "roaming". You keep your original (Portuguese) number.
But, calls will cost more when you are in Italy, but not more than about ~50% more. If you are calling an Italian number, even if you are standing next to the other phone, it will still be an international call from your Portuguese phone.
Make sure you have a way of adding credit to your phone while you are in Italy, for example via a website.
if you are using to dial back to US there maybe a huge price difference. Roaming calls within europe while pricier are capped, non EU calls are not
Thank you for your reply, it will help for emergencies
Do check details with your Portuguese carrier for roaming in Italy. If you need help finding them, here's a list from Prepaid GSM of Portuguese carriers: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/portugal.php.
