celebrating 25th wedding anniversary in Rome

Looking for some suggestions on spending a couple days in Rome with my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. We were in Rome 5 years ago on a big family vacation and have seen all the historic sites. This trip is more a romantic getaway. Looking to do some quite strolling through some neighborhoods. Thanks in advance.

Congratulations! Rome can be very romantic, in so many wonderful definitions of the word. You don't say when you will be traveling but here goes anyway: Trastevere, especially around Santa Maria in Trastevere. It's crowded but oh so Roman. How about a late night walk along the Foro Romano? With the lights, stars and moon it always feel, to me, like I'm looking back in time and history. Then there is a quiet drink on the Piazza Rotunda. The Pantheon at night is extra powerful. I'm partial to Piazza Navona but I must admit I miss the musicians and break dancers. Wish someone could explain why they are all gone! Don't forget a walk around St. Peter's - that can be quiet and inspiring at night. Yep, everything is after dark - I find Rome busy during the day.

Then I stand by my suggestions - just dress a bit warmer. This is just a bit complicated but a great place for a drink before or after dinner is (as you are at the entrance) immediately to the right of Santa Maria in Trastevere. I can't remember the name, something like bar l'arancia. Great people watching and delightful staff. Not necessarily romantic (if you are thinking dark corner in a small restaurant) but Carlo Menta is my favorite place to eat in Trastevere. From the church, walk away from it down the left side of the piazza. It will be on your left maybe 2 blocks.

Hi silva455,

I agree, St. Peter's Basilica and the surrounding piazza is definitely very beautiful at nightfall. There is the "Borgo" neighborhood to wander around. You can reach it by going "behind" St. Peter's and walking toward Borgo.

In addition, I always like to suggest watching The Roman Guy videos. (concentrating on the neighborhood series) Sean is one of the company's principals and narrates most of the videos. He has been with TRG for many, many years. Bojan, another guide who has been with TRG for a long time has his own sense of humor.

Their videos are fun to watch, helpful, and geared towards the newer traveler and perhaps a refresher for those returning.

By the way, if you visit The Pantheon (Piazza della Rotonda), there is a little store very close to there. It is unusual to browse. Or, if you favor exotic teas, maybe stop in namasTey >> https://www.namastey.it/home/
