Hello there! I am currently in Palermo prior to my tour starting February 18. I am visiting Cefalu tomorrow and Rick speaks highly of the hike up to La Rocca. Any reason I shouldn’t do this solo as a single female? He speaks of its rigors, which is fine - I’m in good physical fitness and run and hike a lot. But is it precarious - like falling risks? Safe for a female hiker? Hopefully someone can advise before I take off tomorrow. Thanks!
The main area everyone hikes up to, that has all the viewpoints and some old ruins, is completely safe. The trail up is basically paved and/or flat rock, it’s made for all ages and can accommodate a lot of people. I believe there’s another trail up to the very top of La Rocca, and that I can’t speak to, as I was plenty gassed getting to the main part!
I think it’s safe, not precarious at all. But it’s a lot of climbing. iPhones measure how many floors you climb and that day I climbed 100 floors. There is a spot maybe halfway up kind of behind the cathedral with the best views. I think Google maps calls it Punto Panorámico.or maybe Point de Vue, one of those two.
