Our cruise ship stops for 1 day in Palermo. An alternate tour (offered thru the ship) is to Cefalu. Is this trip worth it? Part of the concern is that a trip to Cefalu would leave us with only a couple of hours to roam around Palermo on our own.

I love Cefalu. I went on the Rick Steves Sicily tour last year and Cefalu was my favorite place.
It is wonderful for walking around. The town in charming. There is a nice beach and you can even do a hike up the "Rock".
There are wonderful seafood restaurants, a nice cathedral and the Piazza is great for people watching.
So, YES I would recommend a trip to Cefalu.
I prefer smaller towns and found Palermo a big city.
There are some good things to see. But, Cefalu for the small town italian atmosphere is my favorite.
