CDC Covid Vaccination Card

Today, while checking in at Florence (FLR) airport for a flight to SFO (via Paris CDG) the agent at the check in desk asked us for the Covid vaccination card. Both my wife and I had it, with all 5 boosters registered so no issue there.

That came to,a surprise to me since I was not asked to show one when I flew out of Rome last July (to SFO via ZRH), which is ironic since both my wife and I got Covid while in Italy so we were fully positive in spite the 4th booster administered 3 weeks prior).

I have no idea if today’s request was a new requirement by Air France, or just Florence airport, or simply the agent did not know what she was doing.

I’ll bet she knew exactly what she was doing - unexpectedly asking for documentation, and the airport’s keeping people off guard. You never know when they’ll require something or not, and it’s good that you were prepared.

Maybe they’re making up for the last time, when they didn’t ask. ;-)

I hope you’ve been well all the time since last July.

U.S. law still states that non-US citizens and non-US immigrants must show proof of vaccination before boarding a plane to the USA.

The gate agent this time was doing her job correctly. The last one wasn't.

This happened to me when I flew out of Zurich last June to Chicago. As proof of vaccine is still required for non-U.S. citizens, but not U.S. citizens, to enter the U.S. I think this confuses some of the airport agents and they just ask to see proof from everyone.

When I was asked for proof, I said “for U.S. citizens?” and he said “oh no, never mind.”
