We are planning a family trip to the Campania area in late June and are considering using Cava de' Tirreni as our home base since it gives us access to Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and the Cilento Coast. Would appreciate any thoughts or recommendations!
I assume you plan to rent a car. What are your plans for seeing the Amalfi Coast? Folks who have been there recently (I have not) frequently discourage driving in that area.
We are renting a car to get to Paestum, Matera and other locations but will likely not drive on the Amalfi Coast.
Barkamy, Stayed there pre pre pre pre covid at Hotel Scapolatiello and never thought I’d hear it mentioned! We couldn’t get hotel reservations on Capri and guess the price was right. The hotel called a taxi for us so from the first day we had a terrific driver available to bring us back and forth to Pompeii, Salerno for the ferry, Positano, Amalfi then even waiting for a late ferry to arrive in Salerno for our pick up to return us to the hotel (his wife had called the hotel concerned about him not home yet). Luckily there was a good casual restaurant near the hotel so once back for the day we would have dinner and stay close by. The hotel also recommended a wonderful restaurant a short walk up a hill outside the town where you’d never believe a restaurant would exist, fun part was finding it! We loved our stay there made convenient by Roberto with his local cab.
