I'm planning a trip to Italy in the Spring. Does anyone know if the Cathedral in Ferrara is open? It was closed for a time and I see mixed information on the internet as to whether it has reopened. Thanks!
The Ferrara Tourist Information website does not mention a closure. But you can email them for confirmation.
In December 2023 the cathedral was fenced in --- and the facade was not visible, just like it wasn't when we visited Ferrara previously in December 2016. So I'm glad you are checking (I foolishly assumed the work would be done....).
Interesting: the web page in Italian is slightly different than the one in English. It states that the cathedral is closed from Sept 23 - Sept 27th, 2024 but of course that wouldn't affect your trip in the spring. It also states that:
"THE FACADE IS PARTIALLY COVERED FOR RESTORATION WORK. THE LEFT NAVE IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIc". It includes more info on the cathedral itself than the other page as well. The current work on the facade and left nave could be ongoing for awhile. Let's just say that because the Italian version is a little more comprehensive, you may want to reference both when your trip date is nearer?
I'm looking at the page linked below and using google translate:

Thanks everyone for your replies! It does seem like the work has been going on for a while. I took Mary's suggestion and just emailed Ferrara Terra e Acqua to inquire. Thanks again!
