Catania to Siracusa travel options/taxi?

Hello,

On Sunday, June 4, I'm scheduled to check in at an Air B&B on Ortygia (Siracusa).

I had planned to go by train, but when I looked at the Trenitalia schedule last night, it seems that the first train to Siracusa does not leave until 4:50pm (16:50). (I swear I saw earlier train departures when I looked several weeks ago! And I was quite sober!)

Anyway, I really don't want to arrive at 6:05pm (18:05).

Has anyone ever taken a taxi from Catania to Siracusa? How did you get it arranged, and how much was it? I am looking for the cheapest option that will not result in a trip to the morgue.

Thank you so much,

Tom Angelo

I used a company called Sicily Life when I needed to get from the Catania Airport to Taormina. English speaking driver, very nice, pointed out the sights along the way.

I'm not sure if they transfer to Siracusa but if not they may know of someone reliable who does.

You didn't enter a time of travel on trenitalia.com and both times the site switched to the time on your system.

Make a search picking 6 AM from the drop-down menu and you will see all trains running from 6 AM onwards.

There are buses as well. There is a bus kiosk and departure area at the Catania airport. And if you go to the taxi pickup area at the curb, they have signs posted with the costs to go to various towns by taxi. You want cheap, then taxi not likely the way to go.

I looked at Trenitalia,; and the OP is almost correct.
The only train
I can see is at 10:50, then the next is not till 16:50.

I think the bus is the best bet.
Looks like InterBus coaches leave Catania Airport every 30 minutes or so.

We took one of their buses from Palermo to Siracusa in April…very good service.

The bus “station”…just outside stops…is right next to the train station in Ortigia.
It’s a 10-12 minute flat walk from there to the beginning of Ortigia.
