Hello - traveling by train in July from Catania to Naples. I have heard that the ferry experience is great and suggestions from others to bring food. We are doing a daytime trip and debating if first class is worth the extra cost since it is about a 7-8 hour trip - any thoughts?
You won't get much more in first class, but it's generally more comfortable (2+1 seats per row with aisle in between, instead of 2+2 with 1 aisle in the middle, therefore larger chairs). But if the price is not much more it's worth it.
I presume you will be on the Trenitalia Intercity train. So look below to see what 1st and 2nd class look like:

Take sandwiches with you. There is no food service on IC trains, only vending machines.
Thanks so much - I went to their website and tried buying first class tickets but they were only selling second class for all trains in July - I checked the April trains and they showed both classes so curious - do they release certain tickets closer to the travel date?
It looks like 1st class seats are all sold out. July is a popular time with vacationers and IC are cheap.
