Catania, Sicily

We are taking the train from Rome to Sicily in July and I'm looking for a hotel recommendation in Catania. Also, any information you could provide about taking a tour of Mr. Etna from there would be appreciated.

Are you sure you want to take the train? Trains take about 10 hours, so flying is faster even counting the airport time, with many flights a day between Rome and Catania (it's actually a bigger airport than Palermo). For the random date of July 8, I see nonstop flights under $100 with Ryanair, Vueling, and Alitalia. If you are checking a bag, remember that this is included on Alitalia, but costs extra on the other two. Use Skyscanner to see all options for your dates, and note that Rome has two airports: http://www.skyscanner.com/

if you are booking on Alitalia, their International site (which has an English option) often shows lower fare options than their US site for these domestic routes.
