Catania or Ortigia, Sicily day sailing trip recs please

End of May/early June: We are caught between a 4 hour sail from Catania or Ortigia - we are interested in a good sturdy sailboat (not some flitzy teeny thing) and an experience that includes historic sites (near caves and such) and a drop of swim. Not a party boat (LOL we are 68).

Doesn't need to be private but we would like to be sure we are in experienced hands and, once again, definitely not on a party sail.

Does anyone have insight on which is location is best? Further, any recommendations on a specific sail?

Thanks.

I can't comment on the sailing part, but I just returned from a trip to Sicily where we stayed in both Ortigia and Catania. These are quite different places- Ortigia is a very charming old town (which is a small island off a large city- Siracusa), and Catania is a major city (one of the biggest in Sicily). Ortigia has some very good historic sites nearby- in addition to the island itself, which contains sites like the duomo which was built over an ancient Greek temple and still incorporates the original doric arches in the walls, there's Neapolis in Siracusa which is quite an impressive archeological site with a huge arena and theatre, where you can even see performances. Catania has more modern sites like baroque churches, the big fish market, and the very good WW2 museum.

Your decision may wind up being based more on which boat options depart from which location- but I hope that helps a bit with the differences between the two cities.
